MOTIVATION

Motivation is derived from the word ‘motive,’ which refers to an individual’s needs, desires, wants, or urges. It is the process of motivating individuals to take action to achieve a set of objectives. In the context of a job goal, psychological elements that influence people’s behavior include a desire for money or success. The process of initiating, guiding, and maintaining goal-oriented behaviors is known as motivation. It’s what motivates you to take action, whether it’s drinking a drink of water to quench your thirst or reading a book to learn something new.

Motivation encompasses the elements that activate behaviors and those that direct and maintain these goal-directed activities. As a result, we frequently have to assume the motivations for people’s actions based on observed behaviors. It is critical to find strategies to raise motivation since it allows us to modify behavior, develop competencies, be creative, set goals, create interests, make plans, develop talents, and promote engagement.

Motivation is important in a variety of ways. It acts as a compass for all human conduct but understanding how it works and the elements that influence it is helpful in a variety of ways.

Understanding motivation allows you to:

As people strive toward their objectives, you can assist them in becoming more efficient.

Assist others in taking action.

Encourage people to adopt health-promoting habits.

Assist people in avoiding risky or maladaptive habits like gambling and addiction.

Assist folks in feeling more in charge of their lives.

Enhance your general happiness and well-being.

IMPORTANCE OF MOTIVATION FOR INDIVIDUAL:

o Motivation will aid him in achieving his objectives.

o If a person is motivated, he will be satisfied with his work.

o Individual self-development will be aided by motivation.

o Working with a dynamic team is usually beneficial to an individual.

IMPORTANCE OF MOTIVATION IN BUSINESS:

§ The team will be more powerful if the employees are motivated.

§ The more teamwork and individual employee contributions there are, the more profitable and successful the company becomes.

§ There will be more adaptability and innovation during the era of changes.

§ At work, motivation will lead to an upbeat and demanding attitude.

ORGANIZATIONAL IMPORTANCE OF MOTIVATION:

1-Helps in making use of human resources.

To achieve its objectives, every business needs physical, financial, and people resources. Human resources can be used to their greatest potential only if they are motivated. This can be accomplished by increasing employee willingness to work. This will assist the company in getting the most out of its resources.

2-Employees’ efficiency is increased.

A subordinate’s or employee’s status is determined by more than only his or her skills and talents. The gap between ability and willingness, which aids in improving the level of performance of subordinates, must be bridged to achieve the best of his work performance. As a result, productivity will rise, operating costs will fall, and overall efficiency will improve.

3-Contributes to the achievement of organizational objectives

Only when the following factors are present can an enterprise’s goals be realized: best possible resource utilization, there is a cooperative work atmosphere; employees are goal-oriented and behave with purpose; goals can be met if coordination and cooperation occur concurrently, which may be accomplished efficiently through incentive.

4-Establishes a pleasant friendship

Motivation is a crucial aspect that contributes to employee satisfaction. This can be accomplished by having an incentive strategy in mind and structuring it for the benefit of the staff. This could result in the following:

Incentives, both monetary and non-monetary

Employee advancement opportunities

Inefficient employees are penalized.

A manager should follow the above procedures to create a cordial, friendly attitude in a company. This would aid in the following areas: effective cooperation that promotes stability, Employee dissatisfaction, and industrial disputes will decrease.

The personnel will be flexible to the adjustments and will not be resistant to them.

This will aid in the provision of a smooth and solid business in which individual interests are aligned with those of the organization, resulting in profit maximization through greater productivity.

5-As a result, the workforce is more stable.

From the standpoint of a company’s reputation and goodwill, worker stability is critical. Employees may only remain loyal to the company if they feel like they have a say in how it is run. Employees’ abilities and efficiency will always be advantageous to both employees and employers. This will result in a positive public image in the marketplace, attracting competent and qualified employees to the company. As the saying goes, “old is gold,” and in this case, the older the employees are, the more experience they have and the better suited they are to the company.

CONCLUSION:

Motivation explains why people or animals begin, continue, or stop doing something at a specific time. Some people may be severely stalled by a project, while others may merely want to squeeze a bit more efficiency into their schedule. Regardless of where inspiration begins, whether it’s your own or someone else’s, there are always ways to boost it.

It’s very normal to feel unmotivated at times. Allow yourself to feel the discomfort, listen to the negative self-talk, and then take action, nonetheless. Let’s imagine you come home from a long day at work and all you want to do is unwind and watch TV. Instead of turning on the television, admit that you’re tired and then set a goal for yourself to read five pages of the book on your nightstand. This method allows you to express negative ideas and feelings while also assisting you in breaking old habits.
